Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Remembering those who have sacrificed while serving and thank you to all who have and continue to serve!

The Huey you are seeing today was manufactured in 1965 and served in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1971, during which time it flew over 7,000 hours.

Though this helicopter was involved in many successful missions, it also experienced incidents during combat that resulted in damage to the helicopter from enemy fire, and the casualty of 3 US soldiers.

The first casualty was on August 1, 1966. The helicopter was taking off from a landing zone in South Vietnam and was hit in the passenger cargo section by enemy fire.

The second and third casualties were on August 15, 1967. Once again during takeoff, the helicopter was hit in the passenger cargo section by an explosive weapon.

In 1971 this helicopter returned to the US and was used for flight training at Fort Rucker in Alabama until 1975.

It’s last year of military service was in 1975 where it spent it’s year flying for NASA at the Langley Research Center.

After it’s retirement from military service, this Huey sat parked in storage for 40 years.

In 2015 the aircraft was fully restored and began civilian operations in Nome, Alaska as N430BH.
